Bridge and Underground Engineering

The Department of Bridge and Underground Engineering prioritizes the construction of internal training system for its teaching staff and recruitment of high-level international educators. Currently, the department has 40 full-time faculty members, including 15 professors, 12 associate professors, 6 lecturers and 10 full-time scientific research staff. All faculty members hold doctoral degrees, with more than half having research experience in international first-class universities. The teaching team is excellent, possessing strong teaching ability, distinctive research characteristics, and a balanced age distribution. Among the team members are 3 part-time professors/doctoral supervisors, 1 special government allowance recipient of the State Council, 1 Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education Jiang Scholar, 1 winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 leaders of science and technology innovation of the National 10,000 Talents Program, 1 young Changjiang scholar, 2 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 1 young top-notch talent of the National 10,000 Talents Program, and 2 distinguished professors of Jiangsu Province.

The Department of Bridge and Underground Engineering and the Department of Architectural Engineering, School of Architecture, jointly established a first-level discipline of civil engineering. This major is one of the earliest civil engineering programs in China and has achieved several recognitions: it is a national characteristic professional construction point, a participant in the first batch of excellent engineer training programs of the Ministry of Education, and one of the first disciplines in the country to pass the civil engineering professional assessment in 1995. Additionally, the Department of Bridge and Underground Engineering has two key secondary disciplines - bridge and tunnel engineering, and geotechnical engineering - in Jiangsu Province that have the authority to confer doctoral and master's degrees, and postdoctoral mobile stations.

As the economy and society continue to develop, bridges, tunnels and underground projects face increasing opportunities and challenges. Our department has always shouldered important responsibilities entrusted by the country and society. We have cultivated talented professionals capable of taking on national responsibilities, pursued technological innovation and achievement transformation, strengthened international cooperation and exchanges, and made significant contributions to national and international civil engineering construction and transportation. The Department has a head and three sub-heads responsible for teaching, research, disciplinary development and faculty training.
